Tim Fischer wants national inquiry into Canberra fires
Former deputy prime minister TIM FISCHER has backed calls for a national inquiry intothe devastating Canberra bushfires amid claims more could've been done to save lives andhomes.
An ABC report says ACT firefighters had planned for the best, rather than worst-case scenario.
The January 18 fires claimed four lives and 470 homes.
Mr FISCHER says the new allegations lend more weight to calls for a national inquiry.
Mr FISCHER, who has rarely entered public debate since quitting politics in 2001, saysthere are lessons to be learnt from the tragedy.
